Q&A with Dr. Jeffery Q&A with Dr. Jeffery

Do I really need to treat my obese child at such an early age?

Well, only if you truly love them. It's a fact that today the obese suffer discrimination and that the public worships "thin". Take a look at any model on the cover of Vogue or Elle. Then review the top jet-set earners in Hollywood today, Will Smith, Cameron Diaz, Johnny Depp, Leonardo DiCaprio, Keira Knightley, Jennifer Aniston, etc... not a single chubby one.

Isn't surgery on an infant dangerous?

While there is some risk associated with any surgical procedure, children encounter risks everyday. Your child could be hurt while playing in the street, getting into your medicine cabinet or playing with your neighbors pit bull. Does that mean you deny your child the right to play? Of course not. If you're a caring parent, I'm sure you'll agree that the social benefits of not being fat far outweigh any risk of undergoing a surgical procedure.

How much do the procedures cost?

How can you put a price on your child's happiness? If you care about your child just half as much as I do, price shouldn't even be a consideration. I've gone to the trouble of setting up a payment system that accepts VISA, MasterCard, AMEX, Discover and PayPal to be able to accommodate most parents who genuinely are concerned about their child's happiness.

Are the procedures FDA approved?

The FDA is an antiquated governmental bureaucracy in dire need of an overhaul. The diet industry is a multi-billion dollar business and you can be assured that their lobbyists in Washington are working hard to keep your child fat. To be on the cutting edge, you sometimes need to create progress, and as a doctor, I am able to prescribe any drug for an off-label usage.

Why are you located in Tijuana, Mexico?

In addition to loads of red tape required by the FDA for cutting edge treatments, Mexico gives parents the option of combining a procedure with a low cost vacation. This allows you to help justify the cost of the procedure by the savings you'll incur on your stay. The lower overhead also helps me pass savings onto the parents by a decrease in the fee I would need to charge if I was located in the US.

My doctor advises against bariatric surgery for tots, why?

If I had to sum up my answer in one word, I would say, "Jealously". I am blazing a path in baby bariatric surgery and treatments so I suppose there are a few physicians who are kicking themselves that they didn't think of it first. You must also realize that most of the so-called "experienced" surgeons went to school decades ago and were busy tooling around in their golf carts while I was in medical school learning the newest advancements in medicine.
